Field trips!

Our first field trip was a field trip to the pool! The kids got comfortable in the water and took Mr. Jenkins' swimming test on wednesday and on thursday the kids brought in their snorkels and masks to  practice clearing their snorkels and unfogging their masks.

Lily pond!

Today Mr. Jenkins class went to the lily pond to hear the story about the new spring and learn about the ecosystems that are living in this spring. The students got to sketch their choice of scenery at the lily pond!

Wailupe Mud Flats

On this field trip we went to the wailupe mud flats to help count how much gorilla ogo is in a certain area of the mud flats. After that, the students got to collect critters including fish and crabs for our aquarium in our classroom back at school!

Magic Island

On our field trip to magic island the kids got to snorkel in the ocean for the first time for this class! We got to see a ton of fishes, cool living coral and even a lagoon jelly. (Pictured at the very bottom)

Coconut Island

On this field trip we all took a boat to coconut island. The students were asked to snorkel in shallow water to look for sea horses! Being in the water at coconut island is a very rare thing only lucky people are allowed to do and I think it was a great experience. We also got to see sharks, and learn about coral, sea cucumbers and anemones through a superb hands on experience.

Black Point

We started our black point field trip by helping out the aina and cleaning up the trash on the beach we were going to snorkel at. Then everyone got in the water and enjoyed seeing the multitude of fishes and various sea creatures in the crystal clear water.

Hanauma Bay

The students got to go to Hanauma bay!! They started by learning about the different fishes and creatures living in the protected area of Hanuama bay and the Kumu that taught us focused on the different types of parrotfish and their anatomy. After that we all went snorkeling! Although the water wasn't crystal clear and it was slightly overcast, we all had a great time!

Yesterday we got to go to the aquarium! Wish we had the whole day there to explore the many different tanks and exhibits, but we definitely took advantage of all the time we had there. After the aquarium, we all went snorkeling at Kaimana beach after, hoping to see some of the creatures we had just seen in tanks, out in the wild. We did see some fishes but no turtles or rays!
