Goodbye Summer 2014!

The kids all got a special treat from Mr. Jenkins, the gift of hula! All the kumu and keiki learned and danced a hukilau hula together to wrap up our amazing summer! Hope you enjoyed looking through the blog to see as best you could how the summer was for the scholars. We certainly had a great time with the kids and can't wait to do this again next year! Mahalo nui to all the parents for supporting their children through this summer school course, all the kumu's for coming everyday with smiles on their faces ready to help and learn along side with the kids. And the biggest mahalo for the scholars! For showing up everyday eager to learn, get dirty, sandy and salty on our field trips, and be flexible with our tight schedule, trying to get everything into one 4 hour class. Mahalo!!!

Marine Biology 2014!

Welcome to Mr. Jenkin's marine biology blog for the summer of 2014!

This 5 week class will allow the students to snorkel in various different marine sanctuaries around Oahu, including Sharks Cove and Hanauma Bay! They will undertake hands on labs and activities and learn about marine mammals, organisms and different ecosystems through Mr. Jenkin's lessons and student presentations. Students gain an understanding of how diverse the marine environment is and how everything survives in a delicate balance, and develop an appreciation for the ocean as they study waves, tides, currents, the main classification groups of marine invertebrates and vertebrates, and principles of marine ecology.

This blog has links to various labs the students will be doing throughout this summer, pictures of the students on field trips and more! There is also a link to the other section of marine biology for the 7th and 8th graders, taught by Mr. Conroy. These two classes switch from time to time to learn from different teachers and do other activities. The links can be found on the right hand side of this page.
